Simon off after Grand National disappointment

Simon, who was heavily-backed in the Grand National betting, will not be seen again this season after unseating his rider at Valentine's Brook when still in with an outside chance of figuring in the money.

Connections have announced that Simon was none the worse for wear for his Grand National experience. Simon is owned by the octogenarian former trainer Mercy Rimell. She and Simon's trainer John Spearing decided to give the gelding a good break before he returns to the fray next year, when once again, the Grand National will be his main target.

Despite failing to score this term, Simon ran some admirable races in defeat and not everything quite went Simon's way.
