Bewleys Berry, who was an admirable fifth when a strong fancy in this year's Grand National betting, has been retired after injuring a leg. Bewleys Berry incurred the tendon injury in the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown, the last big jumps race of the national hunt season. Bewleys Berry was leading the Grand National field until fading late on to be fifth and he had a fine record at Aintree. Bewleys Berry was runner-up to Mr Pointment in the Becher Chase this season over the Grand National fences. Trainer Howard Johnson confirmed that Bewleys Berry had been retired and once his convalescence was over he would be a riding horse.
